PORT HAR-COURT—Over 238 secondary schools in Rivers State have received science laboratory equipment and N200,000 each from the state government in view of the forth coming Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations, SSCE.

The equipment distributed in Port Harcourt, yesterday, by the state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku, was part of the government’s efforts to reposition education in the state.

The governor had released over N47.6 milion intervention fund as subsidy to aid the registration of students in public schools for the 2016/2017 SSCE.

Ebeku warned principals and science teachers in the schools not to divert the equipment and urged them to make actual use of the equipment received by them.

He warned that any school principal that charges more fees than the approved amount by the national body would be punished accordingly.

Ebeku said: “Recently, the state governor resolved to take education to a greater height and approved the release of money for the purchase and distribution of consumable chemicals and science equipment for the conduct of 2016/2017 WAEC and NECO examination.”

“The governor also graciously released a lot of money, N200,000 for each school to serve as subsidy for the registration of student in public schools for the same exam. We are here today to distribute science facilities to the schools and handover the 200,000 per school to the principals.”
